While often associated with childhood and adolescence, bullying does not end with graduation. Adult bullying is a pervasive and often overlooked issue that affects individuals in personal relationships, workplaces, social groups, and even therapeutic settings. This course examines the psychological effects of adult bullying and provides clinicians with tools to support victims. Participants will explore interventions to help clients heal from the trauma of bullying and build resilience against future abuse.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to

  • Apply resilience-building strategies to help clients recover from bullying.

Syllabus:

Introduction

Objective #1: Identify the psychological impacts of adult bullying.

  • Define adult bullying and differentiate it from other forms of interpersonal aggression.
  • Examine the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral effects of bullying on victims.
  • Explore case studies illustrating the long-term psychological impact of adult bullying.

Objective #2: Describe therapeutic interventions that can support victims of adult bullying.

  • Identify trauma-informed approaches to treating bullying-related distress.
  • Discuss evidence-based strategies for addressing anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.
  • Explore the role of mindfulness and self-compassion in healing from experiences of bullying.

Objective #3: Apply resilience-building strategies to help clients recover from bullying.

  • Teach clients coping skills to regain confidence and self-worth.
  • Use cognitive-behavioral techniques to challenge internalized bullying messages.
  • Implement mindfulness and grounding exercises to enhance emotional resilience.

Objective #4: Analyze the long-term effects of bullying on mental health and well-being.

  • Assess the impact of prolonged bullying on self-esteem and identity formation.
  • Examine the link between bullying experiences and later interpersonal relationships
  • Discuss strategies for helping clients prevent re-victimization and set healthy boundaries.
