This course examines the unique mental health challenges faced by Generation Z (individuals born from 1997 to 2012) and the implications of recent research on mental health practices. Participants will explore the influences of technology, social media, and cultural shifts on the mental well-being of Gen Z, while also considering practical strategies for mental health professionals.

Syllabus:
Introduction: This course examines the unique mental health challenges faced by Generation Z (individuals born from 1997 to 2012) and the implications of recent research on mental health practices. Participants will explore the influences of technology, social media, and cultural shifts on the mental well-being of Gen Z, while also considering practical strategies for mental health professionals.
Objective #1: Define characteristics of Generation Z and how these characteristics relate to mental health.
- Definition and characteristics of Gen Z; differences from previous generations.
- Prevalance of mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc.).
- Key statistics and studies highlighting the mental health crisis among Gen Z.
Objective #2: Identify the role of social media and technology in shaping Gen Z’s mental health.
- Positive and negative effects of social media on mental health.
- Cyberbullying, online support, and digital communication.
- Case studies
Objective #3: Develop culturally and contextually relevant practices for engaging with Gen Z in mental health settings.
- Introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tailored for Gen Z
- Incorporating mindfulness and self-care techniques
- Identify teletherapy and mental health apps useful for clients
