In this segment of the series, we will discuss multiculturalism & diversity by discussing supervision models/techniques and assessments that infuse diversity to enhance the supervisory relationship and addressing personal factors, responsiveness, and reactivity that can impact the supervisory relationship. We will examine the supervisory working alliance and how to build and maintain this throughout the relationship as well as factors that influence the successful alliance and appropriate remedies to avoid pitfalls.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Determine concepts to consider for multiculturalism & diversity such as ethics, self-assessment for microaggressions, and unintentional biases.
- Identify what to do when supervisee/supervisor multiculturalism loyalties and commitments conflict.
- Differentiate between a reflective & neutral stance
- Build and maintain a successful supervisory working alliance.
- Explain the common “Pitfalls”, or Factors Influencing the successful supervisory working alliance.
Social workers completing this course will receive 3 Clinical recorded distance learning asynchronous continuing education credits.
For other board approvals, this course qualifies for 3 hours of Ethics, Clinical, and General Skill Building continuing education training.
Course Format: This course is a recorded asynchronous distance learning course delivery with downloadable presentation slides and, if applicable, course supplemental handouts. The learner is required to complete an evaluation assessing the applicability of the course to meet their learning and development needs, and pass a quiz based on course content with a 70% or higher to achieve the CE certificate of completion. The learner is able to reset the test as needed until a satisfactory score is achieved. Once the learner has completed the evaluation and successfully passed the quiz, they will be able to return to their account dashboard and view/download their certificate.

- Discuss expectations for diversity awareness, identity exploration, and organizational change
- Introduce concepts of reflective supervision and its core elements

V. Building and Maintaining the Supervisory Alliance
- Explore the four core tasks of alliance building in supervision
- Define the multicultural working alliance: emotional bond, agreement on goals and tasks

- Address personal factors that influence reactivity in the supervisory and therapeutic relationships
