Managing a private practice caseload can be both rewarding and challenging. This course provides therapists with practical tools to efficiently manage their time, track progress, and maintain a healthy work-life balance while serving a diverse range of clients. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to streamline your practice, this session will offer actionable insights for balancing client needs, administrative duties, and self-care.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to

Introduction

Overview of objectives and structure

Objective #1: Assess and Prioritize Caseloads Using Acuity- and Risk-Based Criteria

  • Introduction to the 5-domain triage framework (Clinical Severity, Functional Impairment, Engagement, Environmental Risk, Crisis History)
  • Use of the Caseload Triage Worksheet for individual scoring and prioritization
  • Case study activity (Marcus) with scoring discussion

Objective #2: Apply Boundary-Setting and Expectation-Management Techniques

  • Efficient note-writing formats (SOAP, DAP, BIRP) and same-day documentation strategies
  • Time blocking, batching, and weekly review rituals
  • Introduction to supportive tech tools (e.g., EHR systems, smart templates, calendars)

Objective #3: Develop a Personal Resilience Plan to Support Sustainability

  • Understanding “Self of the Therapist” through reflection on values, triggers, identity, and energy
  • Burnout and compassion fatigue—how to recognize and respond
  • Completion of Personal Resilience Plan Worksheet with commitment to one weekly action
