Infertility may be one of the most emotionally tangled and trying things a couple goes through. Mental health professionals have an important role in helping clients through the uncertainty, grief and strain on the relationship that tend to accompany fertility struggles. The workshop covers infertility’s psychological toll, the emotional stages couples pass through and therapeutic interventions that strengthen resilience and connection. Participants gain insight into how social and cultural narratives shape the experience, and how to support different paths to family, such as assisted reproductive technology, adoption and living child-free. Clinicians leave ready to offer caring, informed support that honors clients’ experiences and helps them look ahead with hope.

Introduction
- Overview of objectives and structure
Objective#1: Identify the emotional and psychological impact of infertility on individuals and couples
- Emotional responses: grief, guilt, shame, anxiety, jealousy, and identity disruption
- Mental health risks: increased rates of depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms
- Relational impact: decreased intimacy, increased conflict, coping discrepancies, and isolation
Objective#2: Explore effective therapeutic interventions to support clients coping with infertility-related stress, grief, and relationship strain
- Therapeutic modalities: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma Informed Care
- Assessment and screening tools: PHQ-9, GAD-7, FertiQoL, and Fertility Problem Inventory
- Clinical skills: grief processing, validation without false hope, supporting partner dynamics, communication facilitation
Objective#3: Discuss ethical considerations and cultural factors influencing infertility experiences and treatment decisions
