This course equips mental health professionals with the knowledge and tools to support neurodivergent clients. This course explores how to identify, assess, and diagnose neurodivergent clients and better understand the key characteristics of thinking and processing. Participants will learn to identify common challenges faced by neurodivergent clients not only in their daily lives but also in the therapy room. Much of the course will focus on implementing tailored interventions to improve therapeutic outcomes. This course also addresses obstacles therapists may encounter and provides practical strategies to foster a more inclusive and effective therapeutic environment.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to

Syllabus:
Objective #1: Identify key characteristics of neurodivergence.
- Define neurodivergence and what diagnoses qualify as neurodivergence
- Symptoms as defined in the DSM
- Assess and diagnose clients with neurodivergence
Objective #2: Identify specific challenges experienced by neurodivergent clients.
- Differences between neurodivergent. and neurotypical thinking, processing,
- and behaviors
- Discuss ways neurodivergent clients may struggle in therapy
Objective #3: Implement interventions for neurodivergence.
- Learn how to adapt common therapy modalities to improve outcomes for
- clients with neurodivergence
- Learn specific strategies for common challenges of neurodivergent clients
- Discuss challenges as a therapist when working with neurodivergent clients and how to overcome obstacles to best support them.
